Videos That Made My Day!

First off, if you haven't seen Epic Meal Time, check these guys out. They are always making crazy videos involving bacon and large amounts of meat. Some of the food looks good and some not so much, however, all of the videos are entertaining and the commentary by Harley is hilarious! The only thing that improves the video is when they combine with FPS Russia, this guy is awesome too, if you love assault weapons and zombie killing, this guy is it. He is always shooting Justin Beiber or blowing something up, so when these 2 get together, you know you're in store for a good video. Then today I saw Ken Blocks Gymkhana 4 video and the intro was a little long, but the driving was amazing as usual, I was impressed to see less black marks from practice runs as the previous videos, but in reality, it's not important. I would practice too if I was doing this! I really enjoyed the way the camera shifted and all the dynamics of driving in this video. I just was excited after watching the video and wanted to share it with the fans of this page!

Intake Part 1

Changing things up in the wife's S2000, she decided to try to source and use an older Spoon setup. With that being said it was time to ditch the AEM intake and start trying to find a Spoon Snorkel. I have always been more of a fan of box style intakes rather than tube and with the test pipe, the exhaust has a nice tone, but the AEM is still over powering and I always liked how the Mugen intake sounded. I started my research on the snorkel and started to notice some pictures with the resonator removed, and I have 2 extra box intakes laying around.

Still has resonator

Removed and I know this isn't a real Spoon car, but I can't find the pictures I used earlier.

The plan here is to get more of the box intake sound, add a good filter and maximize use of the duct when we receive it. I also planned on gutting the inside of the air box and sealing it as much as possible to make a chamber similar to the J's Racing. I chose the intake that looked worse of the two to experiment with this. It had already been slightly "gutted".

This is the intake to the gigantic resonator chamber, I will later fill this in part 2.

It took longer than I thought to cut the resonator off, I took my time and tried to not fuck it up. Afterwards, I started trying to smooth it out to look "cleaner".

This was before I started to sand the plastic.

This is the underside of the box, I want to take one of the elbows off and try it both ways. What I found was the before it was "gutted" the elbow filled the plastic wall, so really the air box was just the area around the filter.

This was after the elbow was removed, keep in mind a Spoon snorkel will be added in with this ultimately.

I cut some more of the baffle out of the inside, this is about the best I could do.

I then started step one in cleaning up the cuts.

I'm going to work on part two of this whenever I get some more time to put in it.

Plugged

I decided to do the first oil change on the wife's white S2000 and I have been tinkering here and there trying to get things up to par maintenance wise. In doing so, this weekend I did the first oil change on the car since we have owned it, it has around 122,000 miles on it, I don't know what oil has been in it in the past or whatever the dealer used but I went with old faithful Castrol Syntec 10W-30, a Honda filter the larger one, and a new crush washer. While at the store I ordered some new OEM NGK spark plugs. It seemed like the car could have ran a little better and when I pulled the plugs, I saw the problem. I would speculate that these are the original plugs that came from the factory. I haven't seen anything like this in a while. In the picture with the new plug (same plugs as the old ones) on the left its gapped to spec at .044 and the old plugs had work that much of a difference. The plug from number 1 cylinder didn't have much of an electrode left. Nevertheless, it made a huge difference and the car drives a lot better now!

Doing work.

All the old ones.

Here's A Few Links To Share

First off, I had never heard of "Bros Motor Sport", until recently. It's a company in Korea that makes some S2000 parts amongst other things and they appear to have some nice roots in racing. The products they have, seem to be pretty nice and affordably priced, I like how it has shipping included. I am interested in the rear diffuser. I'd like to see how well it works, and how well people's dealings are with this company. A couple of other things to point out, is the sticker packs kinda cool. If you hadn't checked it out heres the link http://www.brosms.com/main.php hopefully they will add more products, I like the look of the exhaust on the red S2000 and how they have Nurburgring stickers on all the cars.

Last, here is a BMW related link, I also like BMW's, a friend of mine sent me this. It's a BMW dealership that is trapped in time in 1988. Apparently it closed and the owner had no intention on selling what was left of anything! It still has brand new cars on the show room floor. Kind of creepy, reminds me of the pictures from Chernobyl after the "accident". Heres the link http://www.endrasbmw.com/10/1988-bmw-dealership-left-untouched/

Test Pipe

I meant to post this last night, however I got busy, trying this "exercise" thing again. Anyway we picked up what's suppose to be a Spoon Test Pipe, there really is no difference in brands, It measured as a 63mm I think and fit perfect. Since this went on my wife's white S2000, I was concerned with the check engine light coming on, so I wasn't about to spend $50 plus on a spacer when I spent $8 at NAPA and made my own in 5 minutes. Here's what you need. Go to NAPA and get a "Spark Plug Non Fouler" (PN- 73-2442) all you need is one package even though it comes with 2, take a drill bit and drill the inside out of one then thread it into the other. (You don't need to use the lock rings it comes with) The one that you drilled will be the one that the O2 sensor threads into and then the whole assembly will thread into the test pipe and no CEL will occur. The O2 is your secondary and throws a CEL code when a test pipe is on the car because it "sniffs" the exhaust to make sure the cat is working so when you space the O2 out of the exhaust it doesn't pick up as much flow and thinks there is still a cat. The only O2 you should be worried about is the primary on the exhaust manifold collector, it's the one that adjust your air/fuel etc. My wife's white S2000 has a stock exhaust manifold and cat back, but you are able to slide the exhaust enough to remove the cat and install the test pipe. The only thing I recommend is to loosen the O2 with a 22mm wrench and then drop the cat and finish threading the O2 out and vice versa, so you don't twist the wires too much. This really woke this car up, the power band feels much smoother and gives the exhaust a little more tone. I highly recommend this to anyone that either wants more tone out of a stock exhaust or wants to gain a few extra ponies, there really isn't much more to say about this other than there is 70mm pipes available for larger exhausts, and you should be able to pick one up used on S2KI for $50 bucks or so, don't waste your money on any name brand one like a J's Racing or whatever. Also don't buy an Invidia with the build in "CEL fix" expecting that to work without spacer, (nothing wrong with an Invidia. It just will still need a spacer) I have yet to see anyone have any luck with just the built in "fix": working. If you just want to add the fix after the fact, just reset your ECU by disconnecting the battery and the CEL should clear.

My Knobs

I have always been searching for the perfect shift knob, its crazy how the shape, weight or size of a shift knob can improve the feel of the pattern or gear change. One of the first knobs I bought in 2002 was the Mugen Formula Knob. I know who owns the original knob now, and would like to have it back one day, but I must be on my 4th Mugen Knob or so, and I believe I have had every color at this point (amongst the other 15 knobs I have had) I just love how it feels going through the pattern. It sits up pretty tall and gives a nice amount of leverage in the gear change, and it is easy to grasp in a quick pinch. You can pick one up from EvasiveMotorsports for $95.00.

So when it came to my wife's car I knew just what knob to get, years ago I had tried a Spoon silver Duracon knob, and I really liked it. The only problem at the time was it had a 5 speed pattern on it and I that kinda bothered me so I got rid of it based on that. But guess what? Spoon answered my woes with a new model with a 6 speed sticker for the top instead of the 5 speed. A nice thing about the spoon knob is that it has a small set screw at the base to make it straight on the shifter. Also the silver and the black colored knobs are offered the black has a rubberish finish on it that is recommended for high heat environments or if you prefer the black over silver color. I like the shape of this knob and its rather small but glides in the pattern quite well. We picked this knob up from Greg at GT Motoring, for $60.00.

Throttle Body Spacer

I was cruising the ASM blog today, and came across the ASM throttle body spacer. Part of my 2011 engine build plans include a 70mm throttle body. I have seen alot of people on s2ki say its a waste of money blah, blah, blah. But I figure Ill give it a shot. Im not sure Ill go with the ASM or maybe have one made. The way I look at is if ASM has spent the time to develop a product like this Im sure it has an advantage, a company like this doesn't develop and produce much nonsense. I found it on GoTuning for $180.00 and they have two different ones available for a 00-05 and 06-09, also they had the ASM 70mm throttle body for $900.00, I don't believe Ill use the ASM throttle body, I draw the line on some things.

*Stole these photos from ASM blog

Searching for the spacer I ended up on GoTuning's blog. While there I came across some "new" J's Racing over fenders(+40mm on each side). I remember when the old overs came out and then people said they never made them etc. I hope the quality is nice on these because some of there aero stuff is has crappy fitment. I don't think these will look to bad on a aggressive setup, however it wont be to long till copies are made the HellaFuckedFail crowd will rape these over fenders. You can pre order these on GoTuning for a cool $500.00.

Suprise!

So once again I get more surprises, I get home to get more info on this block I had bought. Started under the impression it was all good, but then again this fiasco started under the impression this engine I bought was stock too. I pulled the pan off to inspect the rods. Then I noticed one rod has quite a bit of "thrust" thats when I pulled the cap, lets list out our aluminum block of surprises,
Loose intake cam bolts
Cometic head hasket
ARP head studs
ARP Rod Bolts
Wiseco low compression pistons
ERL sleeved block
*X Beam Rods
*Missing rod bearing on #2 and due to a spun bearing

Now heres the beef, someone went to the trouble to find the "knock" pull the rod cap, clean the pan, and put Honda-Bond back on the pan. So it has come time to just sell it and try again.

On a side note, was I got the ASM lip out of the body shop, and installed it in the car, drove the car down the street (Yes it still runs somehow) and took a few shots Ill share later more on the lip etc, until then....

The Shopping List

Current state of Mayham

I am not generally fond of large wheels or super low cars, however Jackie's car has always had my attention. He is always had an interesting set of wheels from size, color or both on his car at the same time. I have been fond of his aero setup with the ASM front to the Spoon Diffuser and J's Racing Wing. One thing not to be overlooked is the Mugen license plate bolts located on top of the Craft Square side mirrors which is a very nice touch, I may have to steel that idea from you. I thought it was pretty cool that the Cusco cage happened to match the wheels quite well when he had the TE-37's that looked pretty cool, and while Im on the interior let me fill you in on the coveted Spoon kevlar bucket seats and Personnel suede red stitched steering wheel, someday I can only dream of such. I have always been very fond of the Spoon seats but, have never been able to source a set of these comfy and rare seats (Maybe my wife will get these for her car. I hope you are reading this!) Under the hood lies a J's Racing intake, that happens to be my favorite intake with the chamber and the large scoop in the front bumper. I also found that he has the T1R 4 piston brake calipers on the front of his car, I happen to be running the T1R 6 pots (I believe the only set made?) they are identical to the Endless and shortly afterwords the 4 pots were released, I would like to get some info on this setup being Im sure its similar to the AP 4 pot kit that happens to be superb brakes. (I like T1R products.) One thing about this car is that it wasn't built over night and it constantly has evolved, to a better setup it seems more love is put into a car built over time that changes. Also keep in mind the car is not shy from the track either I have seen him post about damage caused from this as well. The latest change would be the Advan RG's this is cool that this wheel, that has kind of slipped from popularity has found its way back on to this S2000. I like when the "old" cool stuff finds its way back to current setups. It goes without saying I think a Mugen hardtop needs to find its way there too, Ive seen pictures of this car with an OEM top but I think the Mugen would do it more Justice. This is just another car I have followed for a long time and has been one of my favorites.

Here is a Video to enjoy as well very cool!
